Chapter 24: The Truth About My Own Betrayal

For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

Not because I believed him.

Because I couldn’t.

The words didn’t make sense.

Her mother.

Me.

Again.

Everyone turned toward me.

The same way they had minutes earlier.

Suspicion.

Confusion.

Fear.

I looked at Lily.

And the worst part wasn’t that Michael accused me.

The worst part was seeing the uncertainty in her eyes.

“Lily…”

She immediately shook her head.

“No.””

Her voice was small.

“My mom wouldn’t.””

Those words meant everything.

Because even after everything…

My daughter believed in me.

I looked at Michael.

“You’re lying.””

He smiled.

“Am I?””

“Yes.””

“Then explain.””

He stepped closer.

“Explain why you entered Robert’s office.””

I answered immediately.

“I already did.””

“Explain why your daughter found the recorder after you were there.””

“I don’t know.””

“Explain why the fake documents included your information.””

“I was framed.””

Michael nodded.

“Convenient.””

I felt anger rising.

“You sound exactly like Ethan.””

His expression changed slightly.

A small crack.

Because I had exposed something.

They were alike.

Both believed suspicion was stronger than truth.

Daniel stepped forward.

“Enough.””

He looked at Michael.

“We need evidence.””

Michael smiled.

“You always did like evidence.””

Daniel stared.

“Because evidence matters.””

“Then look.””

Michael pointed toward Vanessa.

“She knows.””

Everyone looked at her.

Vanessa looked terrified.

“Tell them.””

She shook her head.

“I…”

Michael’s voice became colder.

“Tell them what happened.””

Vanessa looked at me.

Then Lily.

Then lowered her eyes.

“I found something.””

My stomach tightened.

“What?””

“Before the wedding.””

Daniel listened carefully.

“I found messages.””

“From who?””

Vanessa hesitated.

Then said:

“From you.””

The room went silent.

I felt like the world stopped again.

“No.””

Vanessa looked ashamed.

“I thought they were real.””

“What messages?””

She opened the folder.

“I received instructions.””

My heart raced.

“Instructions for what?””

“The seating arrangement.””

“The timing.””

“The DJ.””

“The security.””

Everyone became still.

Because those were exactly the things that changed the night.

Vanessa continued:

“The messages were sent from an account connected to your name.””

My face went pale.

“But I didn’t send them.””

“I know that now.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“Do you still have the messages?””

Vanessa nodded.

“Yes.””

She handed him the folder.

Daniel examined the information.

Then his expression changed.

“This isn’t her account.””

Everyone looked at him.

“What?””

“The account was cloned.””

My heart sank.

Another fake.

Another identity stolen.

Daniel continued:

“Someone created a digital copy of her information.””

Michael’s smile faded slightly.

Because this was not the answer he wanted.

Daniel looked at him.

“Your accusation just proved the opposite.””

Michael’s face hardened.

“What?””

“The person behind this didn’t just frame Robert.””

He looked at me.

“They framed her too.””

Silence.

Because suddenly the pattern was clear.

The mastermind wanted everyone blaming each other.

My father.

My mother.

Me.

Ethan.

Carter.

Everyone.

Daniel looked at Vanessa.

“When did you realize?””

She answered quietly:

“Tonight.””

“Then why did you disappear?””

“Because I found the final instruction.””

“What instruction?””

Vanessa looked at Lily.

And tears filled her eyes.

“It said if the child discovers the truth…”

Everyone froze.

“What?””

Vanessa whispered:

“She becomes the next target.””

My blood ran cold.

I grabbed Lily.

“No one is touching her.””

Michael looked annoyed.

“This is becoming emotional.””

Daniel turned sharply.

“Because it involves a child.””

Michael ignored him.

“Emotions are why families fail.””

“No.””

I looked at him.

“Families fail because people like you destroy them.””

For the first time, Michael looked angry.

Then Daniel’s phone rang.

He answered.

His expression changed.

“What?””

Everyone waited.

He looked at me.

“We found the original trust documents.””

My heart jumped.

“Where?””

Daniel’s face became serious.

“They were hidden in the one place nobody searched.””

“Where?””

He looked toward the mansion.

“Inside the wedding venue.””

A pause.

“In the room where Lily first found the recorder.””

Everyone froze.

Because that meant one thing.

Someone had known exactly where Lily would look.

Someone had guided her.

Someone had been waiting.

Daniel lowered the phone.

“And there’s a video attached.””

My stomach tightened.

“A video of what?””

He looked at Lily.

“A video showing who placed the recorder.””

Nobody spoke.

Because the final answer…

May you like

was finally waiting for us.

And whoever appeared on that video would reveal the person who had controlled everything from the beginning.
