Chapter 9: The Daughter Who Was Hidden

Claire walked into the mansion slowly.

Every step carried exhaustion.

Fear.

Regret.

Alexander moved toward her.

“Claire, what happened?””

She looked at him.

And for a moment, she looked like a little girl who had spent years carrying a secret too heavy to hold.

Then she looked at Elena.

“I’m sorry.””

Elena felt confused.

“Why are you apologizing to me?””

Claire’s eyes filled with tears.

“Because I knew.””

The room became silent.

“Knew what?””

Claire looked at Richard.

“I knew what happened to your mother.””

Elena’s chest tightened.

“You knew she was alive?””

Claire nodded.

“Yes.””

Anger flashed through Elena.

“You let me believe she abandoned me.””

Claire looked down.

“I was afraid.””

“Afraid of him?””

Claire nodded.

Richard stepped forward.

“This is enough.””

But Claire turned toward him.

“No.””

Her voice shook.

“Not anymore.””

Richard stared at her.

“You have no idea what you’re doing.””

Claire laughed bitterly.

“I spent my entire life doing what you wanted.””

Alexander looked between them.

“Claire, what are you saying?””

She looked at him.

“I’m saying our father destroyed everyone who got in his way.””

The words hit hard.

Alexander looked at Richard.

“My whole life…”

Claire nodded.

“Was built on lies.””

She pulled out a small recorder from her pocket.

“I found this in the hidden room.””

Richard’s expression changed.

“What did you do?””

Claire pressed play.

A voice filled the room.

Richard’s voice.

Cold.

Calculated.

“I don’t care who gets hurt. The company stays mine.””

Everyone listened.

The recording continued.

Another voice appeared.

Vanessa.

“I’ll make Elena leave.””

Richard answered.

“Good. Then Alexander will have no reason to question us.””

Alexander closed his eyes.

Because hearing it was different from knowing it.

It was real.

His father.

His family.

His entire life.

Built on deception.

Elena watched him carefully.

Despite everything, she saw his pain.

She stepped closer.

“Alexander…”

He looked at her.

“I’m sorry.””

The words were barely audible.

“For what?””

“For not seeing it.””

Elena shook her head.

“You were lied to too.””

But Richard suddenly laughed.

A quiet laugh.

Everyone turned.

“You’re all celebrating too early.””

Detective Ruiz looked at him.

“What does that mean?””

Richard looked at Elena.

“You think exposing me changes everything?””

Elena stared.

“What else is there?””

Richard smiled.

“Ask your husband.””

Alexander froze.

Elena turned.

“Alexander?””

Richard continued.

“Ask him why he never told you about the night you first met.””

Alexander’s face changed.

Elena noticed.

And her heart sank.

“What is he talking about?””

Alexander looked away.

“Nothing.””

Richard smiled.

“There it is.””

Elena stepped back.

“No.””

Alexander looked at her.

“Elena, please.””

“What happened?””

Nobody answered.

Then Claire whispered:

“He didn’t know the truth either.””

Elena looked at her.

“What truth?””

Claire looked at Alexander.

Then at Elena.

“The night you met Alexander wasn’t a coincidence.””

The room went completely still.

Elena felt the ground beneath her shift.

Because for months, she believed the biggest betrayal came from Vanessa.

Then Richard.

But now she realized something worse.

The foundation of her own marriage had a secret.

And Alexander had been carrying it from the beginning.

Claire took a deep breath.

“Elena…”

May you like

She looked terrified.

“Your marriage was part of Richard’s plan too.””
