Chapter 3: The Secret Behind The Cameras
Vanessa stood alone in the hallway, staring at her phone.
The mansion was silent.
Too silent.
“Who is this?”” she demanded.
No answer.
Only a slow click.
The call ended.
For the first time that night, Vanessa felt something she hated.
Fear.
She quickly deleted the call history and walked toward the staircase.
She needed control again.
Control was everything.
But what Vanessa didn’t know was that Detective Ruiz had already arrived at the mansion.
And Elena was waiting.
When the front doors opened, every conversation in the house stopped.
A tall man in a dark suit stepped inside, holding an official folder.
“Detective Ruiz,” he announced.
Mrs. Howard stood up.
“What is this about?””
The detective looked around the room.
“A reported assault.””
Vanessa immediately stepped forward.
“I can explain.””
Detective Ruiz looked at her.
“I’m sure you can.””
The way he said it made Vanessa uncomfortable.
Alexander walked beside him.
“Detective, my wife was injured.””
Ruiz nodded.
“Yes. And that is why I need everyone to remain here.””
Vanessa forced a confused expression.
“Remain here?””
“Yes.””
She laughed nervously.
“Detective, this is ridiculous. It was an accident.””
Ruiz opened his folder.
“Interesting.””
Vanessa looked at him.
“What?””
“You used the word accident.””
The room became quiet.
Ruiz continued.
“I never used that word.””
Vanessa’s face changed.
Only slightly.
But Elena noticed.
She stood at the top of the stairs, supported by Alexander.
“You’re right, Detective.””
Everyone looked up.
Vanessa’s eyes widened.
“Elena?””
Elena slowly walked down.
Every step reminded everyone of what had happened.
The woman they thought was helpless was standing in front of them.
“I thought you were unconscious,” Vanessa whispered.
Elena stopped.
“That was the idea.””
Alexander stared at her.
“You were awake?””
“Yes.””
The room exploded with whispers.
Mrs. Howard covered her mouth.
“But why?””
Elena looked directly at Vanessa.
“Because I needed to hear the truth.””
Vanessa shook her head.
“She’s lying.””
Detective Ruiz calmly removed a small device from his folder.
“No, Mrs. Carter. She isn’t.””
Vanessa froze.
Mrs. Carter.
Not Howard.
Because Ruiz knew something nobody else did.
Vanessa had been hiding her real involvement with the Howard family for years.
Alexander looked confused.
“Why did you call her Carter?””
The detective turned on a small recording.
A voice filled the room.
Vanessa’s voice.
“I don’t care what happens to Elena. Once she’s gone, Alexander will finally understand that I’m the only person who belongs in this family.””
Everyone stared at Vanessa.
The color drained from her face.
“That’s edited.””
Ruiz shook his head.
“We verified the recording.””
Vanessa looked around desperately.
“Everyone is misunderstanding.””
Elena stepped closer.
“No.””
Her voice was calm.
“For the first time, everyone understands.””
Vanessa’s expression turned cold.
The fake tears disappeared.
“You planned this.””
Elena nodded.
“Yes.””
A shocked silence filled the mansion.
“I planned for the truth to come out.””
Vanessa laughed bitterly.
“You think this proves everything?””
Ruiz opened another document.
“No.””
He placed it on the table.
“This does.””
Alexander picked it up.
His eyes moved across the page.
Then his face changed.
“What is this?””
Elena looked at Vanessa.
“Something she never thought anyone would find.””
Vanessa suddenly moved toward the table.
“No.””
But it was too late.
Alexander had already seen the name.
The signature.
The hidden agreement.
And the person who had been secretly funding Vanessa’s entire plan.
He slowly looked up.
“Vanessa…”
She stopped breathing.
Because the one person she trusted to protect her had just become the person who could destroy her.
And Detective Ruiz spoke the final words that made everyone turn toward the mansion’s entrance.
“The person who hired Vanessa to remove Elena from this family is waiting outside.””
The front door opened.

And everyone heard a familiar voice say:
“I think it’s time we finally told Elena the whole truth.””
