Chapter 15: The Fall of Julian Carter

The board meeting started at nine in the morning.

By ten, three investors had withdrawn.

By eleven, the company's legal team had resigned.

By noon, Julian's carefully built image started collapsing.

But he still refused to admit defeat.

That was Julian's greatest weakness.

He always believed he had one more move.

One more lie.

One more person to convince.

At two in the afternoon, Marcus called.

"It's happening.""

"What?""

"The board removed him.""

I closed my eyes.

Not from happiness.

From relief.

Because this wasn't about revenge.

It was about stopping him.

"What about the investigation?""

"Still moving forward.""

"And Julian?""

Marcus lowered his voice.

"He disappeared.""

My heart tightened.

"What?""

"He left the office before anyone could question him.""

Of course.

Julian didn't face consequences.

He escaped them.

Or tried to.

Rachel immediately began tracking the legal situation.

Then, an hour later, we received a message.

Not from Julian.

From an unknown number.

A single sentence.

*You think you've won.*

I stared at the screen.

Rachel looked concerned.

"Don't respond.""

"I won't.""

Another message came.

*You don't know who you're fighting.*

Then a photo.

I opened it.

And felt the blood leave my face.

It was a picture of Julian.

Standing beside someone.

Someone I recognized.

Someone I never expected.

Richard Brooks.

Sienna's father.

The man who had disappeared years ago after the fraud case.

The man connected to everything.

Rachel took the phone.

"This changes everything.""

I looked at the image.

Julian wasn't running alone.

He had help.

And suddenly, I understood.

The company.

The money.

The fake documents.

Sienna.

My father.

All of it was connected.

Julian wasn't the mastermind.

He was only one piece.

A dangerous piece.

But still only a piece.

My phone rang.

Sienna.

I answered.

Her voice was shaking.

"Clara.""

"What happened?""

"He found out.""

"Who?""

"My father.""

I froze.

"What does he know?""

"Everything.""

A cold feeling spread through me.

"Where are you?""

"I don't know.""

"What do you mean?""

"I left.""

"Sienna...""

"I finally understand what Julian was doing.""

There was fear in her voice.

Real fear.

"What?""

She whispered:

"Your husband wasn't planning to steal money.""

A pause.

"He was planning to disappear with a new identity.""

I felt the room spin.

A new identity.

A new life.

A new beginning.

Without consequences.

Without us.

Before I could respond, the call ended.

I looked at Rachel.

She already understood.

"This isn't over.""

I nodded.

No.

It wasn't.

Because Julian Carter didn't just betray me.

He started a war.

And now I knew something he didn't.

Wars weren't won by the strongest person.

They were won by the person willing to uncover the truth.

May you like

And I was done searching for answers.

Now I was going to make sure everyone heard them.
