Chapter 9: The Truth Nobody Wanted Revealed

I didn’t tell anyone about the message immediately.

Not because I wanted to hide it.

Because I was tired.

Tired of discovering one secret after another.

Every time I thought we reached the end, another door opened.

Another painful truth appeared.

I sat on my bed staring at the message.

“Your family is blaming the wrong person.””

The words bothered me.

Because they sounded like a warning.

Not a threat.

A warning.

Whoever sent it wanted me to know something.

But why?

My first thought was Mia.

Maybe she was trying to manipulate me again.

But no.

The timing was wrong.

Mia didn’t know about everything happening.

Then I thought about Karen.

Maybe someone connected to her.

Maybe someone trying to protect her.

But something about the message felt different.

It felt personal.

Like the person knew me.

The next morning, I finally showed my father.

His expression became serious immediately.

“Why didn’t you tell me last night?””

“Because I needed time to think.””

He nodded.

“That’s fair.””

He didn’t get angry.

He didn’t blame me.

That meant more than he realized.

“We need to find out who sent it.””

I nodded.

But before we could investigate, something happened.

Something none of us expected.

Mia walked into the room holding a folder.

“I found something.””

Everyone looked at her.

“What is it?”” my father asked.

She placed the folder on the table.

“I found it in Karen’s closet.””

Karen’s face changed.

“What?””

Mia looked uncomfortable.

“I wasn’t trying to search through your things.””

Nobody believed that completely.

But nobody interrupted.

“There are documents.””

My father opened the folder.

I watched his expression change as he read.

“What is it?””

He didn’t answer.

He kept reading.

Then slowly placed the papers down.

“What?””

He looked at Karen.

“Why didn’t you tell me?””

Karen looked terrified.

“I was going to.””

“When?””

She had no answer.

My father picked up the papers again.

And then he handed them to me.

I read the first page.

And my entire body went cold.

It was about money.

A large amount.

Money that had disappeared from a family account.

A family account connected to my father.

“What is this?””

Karen started crying.

“I can explain.””

My father looked heartbroken.

“You knew?””

“I was going to fix it.””

“Fix what?””

She covered her face.

“I made a mistake.””

The room went silent.

“What mistake?”” I asked.

Karen looked at me.

And I saw fear in her eyes.

“I borrowed money.””

My father frowned.

“How much?””

She whispered the amount.

Nobody spoke.

It was enough to change everything.

Enough to explain why she was desperate.

Enough to explain why she was afraid.

But not enough to excuse what she did.

My father stood there silently.

Then he asked the question nobody expected.

“Who convinced you to do this?””

Karen froze.

I noticed it.

The hesitation.

The fear.

“There was someone.””

My heart started pounding.

“Who?””

She looked at all of us.

Then whispered:

“Someone who knew our family before you did.””

The room became silent.

Because suddenly we understood.

This wasn’t just a family argument.

Someone had been watching.

Someone had been influencing decisions.

Someone had been waiting for us to fall apart.

And now we finally had a name.

But hearing it would change everything.

May you like

Because the person behind all of this…

Was someone my father trusted more than anyone.
