Chapter 3: The Secret Behind The Smile
The graduation ceremony was supposed to be perfect.
Instead, I arrived feeling like I had survived a storm.
My father found me a simple replacement dress from a nearby store. It wasn’t the dress I dreamed about wearing, but when I looked in the mirror, I realized something.
I still looked like me.
The dress didn’t create my achievement.
I did.
When I arrived at school, my friends immediately noticed something was wrong.
“Are you okay?”” my best friend Lily asked.
I forced a smile.
“I’m okay now.””
I didn’t tell everyone what happened.
Not because I was ashamed.
Because I was tired of Mia taking up space in my life.
That day was supposed to be mine.
When I walked onto the field with my classmates, I heard my father cheering louder than anyone.
I looked toward the crowd.
He was standing beside Karen and Mia.
Karen looked uncomfortable.
Mia looked different.
Not angry.
Not confident.
Just quiet.
After the ceremony, my father hugged me.
“I’m proud of you.””
Those words meant more than any dress ever could.
But while everyone was taking pictures, my phone started vibrating.
A message.
From an unknown number.
I almost ignored it.
Then I opened it.
My smile disappeared.
There was a picture attached.
A screenshot of a conversation.
A conversation between Mia and someone else.
My hands started shaking.
Because the message revealed something I never expected.
Mia hadn’t destroyed my dress randomly.
She had planned it.
For weeks.
And there was more.
The person she had been talking to was someone I trusted.
Someone who had been pretending to support me.
I looked up slowly.
Across the crowd, Mia was watching me.
And when our eyes met, she knew.
I had seen it.
Her face went pale.
My father noticed.
“What happened?””
I locked my phone.
“Dad…”
He looked at me carefully.
“What is it?””
I didn’t answer immediately.
Because suddenly the ruined dress wasn’t the biggest betrayal anymore.
The scissors.
The fabric.
The cruel words.
Those were only the beginning.
I looked back at Mia.
And for the first time, I realized she wasn’t just jealous.
She was hiding something.
Something much bigger.
Something that could change everything we knew about our family.
My father stepped closer.
“Tell me.””
I took a deep breath.
Then I handed him my phone.
He read the message.
His expression changed.
The same quiet anger from that morning returned.
But this time, it was worse.
Because now we knew.
The destroyed graduation dress wasn’t an accident.
May you like
It was part of a plan.
And Mia had no idea that the truth she tried so hard to hide was about to come out in front of everyone.
