Chapter 13: The Friend Who Designed My Downfall

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The name on the screen remained there.

Sienna Blake.

A name that once represented friendship.

Trust.

Comfort.

A woman I welcomed into my home.

A woman who knew every weakness I had.

A woman who knew exactly where to hurt me.

And apparently…

She was the person who had been controlling the entire nightmare.

“No.””

Julian’s voice broke the silence.

Not angry.

Not defensive.

Just shocked.

He stared at the screen like he was waiting for the letters to change.

“That’s impossible.””

Ethan looked at him.

“You said that a lot when the truth started appearing.””

Julian didn’t respond.

Because this time, he couldn’t argue.

The evidence was right there.

My father’s files.

His recordings.

His research.

Everything he had hidden to protect the people he loved.

I clicked the next file.

A video opened.

The image was old.

Grainy.

But the voice was unmistakable.

My father.

“I don’t know who will find this,” he said.

“But if it is Clara, then I need her to understand something.””

I leaned closer.

My father looked tired.

Older than I remembered.

Like he had been carrying a weight nobody else could see.

“The person closest to you is not always the person who loves you.””

My chest tightened.

He continued.

“Sometimes the person who knows your heart best is the person who knows exactly how to break it.””

Nobody spoke.

The video continued.

“I discovered that Sienna Blake has been gathering information about Clara’s life for years.””

My blood ran cold.

Years.

Not months.

Not after the divorce.

Years.

“She has collected financial details, medical information, and private conversations.””

I looked at Ethan.

He looked equally shocked.

My father continued.

“At first, I believed she was working for someone else.””

The screen flickered.

“But I was wrong.””

A pause.

“She was building something of her own.””

The room became colder.

My hands tightened.

The woman who sat beside me during my darkest moments.

The woman who told me she understood my pain.

She had been studying me.

Planning.

Waiting.

“Why?”” Julian whispered.

Nobody answered.

Because the question was bigger than any of us.

Why would Sienna do this?

Why destroy my marriage?

Why manipulate medical records?

Why create a fake family?

The next file answered.

A financial report.

Transfers.

Accounts.

Ownership records.

I opened it.

And then I understood.

Sienna wasn’t after Julian.

She wasn’t even after me.

She was after control.

The foundation.

The investments.

The assets connected to my father’s company.

Everything she helped take after my divorce.

“She used me,” Julian said quietly.

I looked at him.

“Yes.””

He swallowed.

“I thought I was choosing her.””

The sadness in his voice almost made me feel sympathy.

Almost.

Because while Sienna manipulated him…

He still made his own choices.

He still hurt me.

He still walked away.

“You chose to believe her,” I said.

Julian closed his eyes.

“I know.””

Ethan looked through the documents.

“There’s more.””

“What?””

He pointed.

“Sienna wasn’t working alone.””

My stomach tightened.

Another name appeared.

Richard Hale.

My anger returned instantly.

“Richard?””

Ethan nodded.

“But not the way we thought.””

I looked at him.

“What does that mean?””

“Richard helped create the system she used.””

My mother looked devastated.

“He knew?””

Ethan nodded slowly.

“He knew parts of it.””

My mother sat down.

For the first time, she looked truly broken.

“Everyone knew something.””

Her voice trembled.

“Everyone except Clara.””

I didn’t answer.

Because she was right.

My entire life had been built around people protecting me from the truth.

But nobody asked whether I wanted protection.

Maybe I didn’t need protection.

Maybe I needed honesty.

The final file opened.

A recorded conversation.

Sienna’s voice filled the room.

“She will never suspect me.””

I froze.

The recording continued.

“She thinks I’m her friend.””

Another voice answered.

A man.

Richard.

“Don’t underestimate her.””

Sienna laughed.

“Clara is emotional. She trusts people too easily.””

My jaw tightened.

“She won’t fight.””

Richard replied:

“That’s what makes her dangerous.””

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

Because suddenly, I understood something.

Sienna had mistaken kindness for weakness.

She thought my silence meant surrender.

She thought my pain meant defeat.

She had no idea that every time she pushed me down…

She was teaching me how to stand back up.

My phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

“Clara?””

Sienna.

Everyone heard her voice.

My entire body went still.

“How did you get my number?””

A small laugh.

“You’re asking the wrong question.””

“What do you want?””

“I want to explain.””

I almost smiled.

“Explain what?””

“Everything.””

I looked at the people around me.

The people who finally knew.

“Where are you?””

Silence.

Then:

“I know you found your father’s files.””

My heart stopped.

“How?””

Another laugh.

“Because I let you.””

Everyone froze.

“What?””

Sienna continued.

“You really thought you discovered the truth?””

Her voice became colder.

“You found exactly what I wanted you to find.””

The call ended.

I stared at the phone.

Ethan stood up.

“She’s playing another game.””

I nodded.

Because I knew.

The evidence wasn’t the end.

It was the beginning.

And Sienna had just admitted something terrifying.

She was still in control.
