Chapter 6: The Truth Hidden Behind the Wedding

Daniel drove home without remembering the journey.

His hands held the steering wheel.

His eyes watched the road.

But his mind was somewhere else.

Alex.

His own brother.

The person he protected.

The person he loved.

The person he mourned.

Could he really have been behind everything?

When Daniel arrived, Ethan immediately knew something had happened.

“You found out more.””

Daniel nodded.

The boy waited.

Daniel sat down.

“Your uncle is alive.””

Ethan’s eyes widened.

“What?””

“And he may be the person behind all of this.””

Ethan was quiet.

Then he asked:

“Do you believe that?””

Daniel looked at him.

That was the hardest question.

Because believing it meant accepting that the people closest to him had betrayed him.

“I don’t know.””

For the first time, Daniel admitted uncertainty.

That night, Daniel searched through old family records.

Everything connected back to one event.

Fifteen years ago.

The business scandal.

The missing money.

The betrayal.

But there was one detail he had forgotten.

Alex had been angry back then.

Very angry.

He believed Daniel got everything.

The success.

The respect.

The family.

Alex always felt like the forgotten brother.

Daniel remembered one conversation.

“You think you deserve everything because you worked harder?””

Alex had said.

“But I was there too.””

At the time, Daniel thought it was jealousy.

Now…

it sounded like something more dangerous.

A plan.

The next day, Daniel met Rebecca again.

This time, he brought evidence.

“You knew Alex was alive.””

Rebecca didn’t deny it.

“Yes.””

“Why didn’t you tell me?””

“Because he threatened me.””

Daniel stared.

“Alex?””

Rebecca nodded.

“He said if I exposed him, he would destroy you.””

Daniel’s anger softened slightly.

“What did he want?””

Rebecca looked at him.

“The company.””

Daniel shook his head.

“He already had his own money.””

“It was never about money.””

“Then what?””

Rebecca answered:

“Control.””

Daniel said nothing.

Rebecca continued.

“Alex believed you stole the life he deserved.””

“That’s insane.””

“I know.””

She looked away.

“But obsession doesn’t need logic.””

Daniel received a message while they were talking.

A video.

From an unknown sender.

He opened it.

And immediately recognized the room.

Vanessa’s hotel room.

But this time, the person speaking wasn’t Vanessa.

It was Alex.

Alive.

Sitting across from her.

Daniel watched.

Alex said:

“The wedding must happen.””

Vanessa replied:

“What if Daniel finds out?””

Alex smiled.

“He won’t.””

“His son already knows.””

Alex’s expression changed.

“Then handle the boy.””

Daniel’s blood turned cold.

Vanessa asked:

“And if he tells him?””

Alex leaned forward.

“Then make sure Daniel never hears the truth.””

The video ended.

Daniel couldn’t breathe.

Because now he knew.

Ethan wasn’t just a child caught in the middle.

He was a target.

Someone had wanted his son silent.

Daniel immediately called home.

No answer.

He called again.

Nothing.

His heart raced.

He ran to his car.

When he arrived, the front door was open.

“Ethan!””

No response.

Daniel rushed inside.

The house was empty.

On the floor was Ethan’s phone.

Broken.

Next to it was a note.

Daniel picked it up.

Only five words were written.

*You should have listened sooner.*

Daniel’s face went pale.

Because whoever took Ethan wasn’t trying to hide anymore.

They wanted Daniel to know.

They wanted him afraid.

And as he stood alone in the silent house…

Daniel realized the wedding disaster had never been the end of the plan.

It was the beginning.

And now the person he loved most was gone.
