Chapter 3: The Evidence Hidden in His Phone

Two hours passed.

Two hours of waiting.

Two hours of questions nobody wanted to ask.

Julian remained unconscious inside the ICU.

The new test results came back.

And they changed everything.

The doctor approached us with a serious expression.

"The previous diagnosis was incomplete.""

Teresa immediately stepped forward.

"What does that mean?""

"The patient's condition appears more complicated than initially believed.""

The doctor looked at me.

"Dr. Whitmore was correct that we needed to stabilize his electrolyte imbalance first.""

The way he said my title made Teresa uncomfortable.

Because for the first time...

Someone respected the part of me they had spent years ignoring.

Arthur cleared his throat.

"Can we speak privately?""

I almost laughed.

Now he wanted privacy.

Now he wanted a conversation.

Not when I was being insulted.

Not when his family blamed me.

Only after I proved I was useful.

"No," I said.

His expression hardened.

"Excuse me?""

"I have nothing to hide.""

The hallway became tense.

Then Serena quietly spoke.

"I should leave.""

Everyone looked at her.

But before she walked away, I noticed something.

Her hand was holding Julian's phone.

I froze.

"Why do you have my husband's phone?""

Serena stopped.

"I found it when he collapsed.""

"Give it to me.""

She hesitated.

That hesitation told me everything.

Arthur stepped in.

"Clara, don't start another argument.""

I ignored him.

"Serena.""

My voice was calm.

"Give me the phone.""

After a long moment, she handed it over.

I unlocked it.

Julian's password had always been our anniversary date.

A detail Serena probably didn't know.

The screen opened.

And immediately...

I saw dozens of messages.

Not from friends.

Not from coworkers.

From Serena.

My heart didn't break.

Not anymore.

It simply became quiet.

Because pain eventually reaches a point where it stops hurting.

It starts teaching.

The messages were not what I expected.

They weren't romantic.

They were worse.

They were about meetings.

Money.

Documents.

And one message from Serena sent at 2:15 a.m.

"Are you sure she won't find out?""

Julian replied:

"Clara trusts me.""

I stared at those words.

Not because they surprised me.

Because they confirmed what I already knew.

I kept scrolling.

Then I found a hidden folder.

A folder protected by another password.

Interesting.

I looked at Serena.

Her face had lost its confidence.

"What is in that folder?""

She said nothing.

Arthur became nervous.

"Clara, enough.""

"No.""

I looked at him.

"For years, everyone told me I was paranoid.""

I held up the phone.

"For years, everyone told me I didn't understand Julian's world.""

I took a breath.

"But tonight, I am the only person standing here trying to understand what happened.""

I opened the folder.

Inside were files.

Financial records.

Private conversations.

And one document that made my entire body go cold.

A medical report.

Not Julian's.

Mine.

My old medical research.

My confidential work from years ago.

Someone had stolen it.

Someone had been using my knowledge.

Using my name.

Using the career I abandoned.

I looked up slowly.

Serena was staring at me.

And for the first time...

I understood.

Julian's collapse at her apartment was not just a betrayal.

It was part of something bigger.

Something planned.

Something that involved the one thing my in-laws never knew about.

The woman they thought was powerless.

Me.

I closed the phone.

Then I looked at Serena.

"Tell me the truth.""

She said nothing.

So I stepped closer.

"Because if you don't...""

I held up the evidence.

May you like

"...I will find it myself.""

And this time, nobody in that hospital would be able to stop me.
