Chapter 12: The Daughter Who Returned to Expose the Monster

The next morning, we received a package.

No return address.

No name.

Just a plain brown box left outside the cabin.

Nobody wanted to touch it.

Because by then, we knew.

Every secret in our lives came wrapped in something ordinary.

A letter.

A photograph.

A document.

Something harmless-looking that carried the power to destroy everything.

Mark opened it carefully.

Inside was a phone.

And one piece of paper.

A message.

“Watch.””

The phone turned on automatically.

A video appeared.

Richard.

He was sitting in an office.

Calm.

Relaxed.

Like he wasn’t a man who had destroyed families.

“I know you found the records.””

Everyone froze.

He was talking to us.

“I know Claire knows the truth.””

My hands tightened.

Richard continued.

“But there is still something she doesn’t know.””

Mark whispered:

“What now?””

The video continued.

“You believe Lily was chosen because of the trust.””

A pause.

“That is only part of the reason.””

My stomach dropped.

“What does that mean?””

Richard looked directly into the camera.

“Lily was not the only child I needed.””

Nobody spoke.

Then the screen showed a photograph.

A baby.

A newborn.

My blood turned cold.

Because I recognized the hospital blanket.

The same one from Lily’s baby photos.

Richard’s voice continued.

“Sixteen years ago, there were not two babies.””

My father stepped backward.

“No.””

The video ended.

Everyone stared.

“What did he mean?””

My father looked terrified.

“I don’t know.””

But Victoria suddenly spoke.

“I do.””

We turned.

She looked pale.

“There was another record.””

“What record?””

She swallowed.

“A third birth record.””

The room went silent.

“No.””

She nodded.

“Richard told me.””

I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

“Another child?””

Victoria looked at Lily and Emma.

“Yes.””

Mark shook his head.

“That’s impossible.””

Victoria looked at him.

“Is it?””

The question destroyed us.

Because after everything we had learned, nothing felt impossible anymore.

My father sat down.

His hands covered his face.

“How many lies did we live with?””

Nobody answered.

Then my phone rang.

A message.

From Richard.

One sentence.

“You have two daughters because I allowed it.””

I stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

A picture.

A young woman.

About sixteen years old.

Standing beside Richard.

Underneath the photo was a name.

“Anna.””

I looked at Lily.

Then Emma.

Then the picture.

My heart stopped.

Because the girl in the photo had my eyes.

My face.

My smile.

Another daughter.

Another secret.

And this time, I knew exactly what Richard was trying to do.

He wasn’t just hiding the past.

He was revealing it piece by piece.

Because he wanted us broken.

But he didn’t understand something.

He had spent sixteen years separating my children.

He had spent sixteen years believing I was weak.

He had never seen the woman I became when someone threatened my family.

I looked at Mark.

“We find Anna.””

I looked at my daughters.

“And we bring her home.””

Because Richard had taken enough.

May you like

He had stolen enough.

And now, I was coming for everything he thought he owned.
