Chapter 11: The Final Weapon Adrian Kept Hidden

Three days after the hearing, everything changed.

Not because Adrian won.

Because he attacked.

The news broke at 6:00 a.m.

*PRIVATE DOCUMENTS RELEASED ALLEGING MISCONDUCT BY ADRIAN CROSS’S WIFE*

My heart sank when I saw my own name.

Not because I was afraid.

Because I knew exactly what it was.

A distraction.

A desperate attempt to destroy my credibility.

Julian arrived at my parents’ house before breakfast.

“He released edited documents.””

I looked at the files.

“What are they?””

“Financial records.””

I studied them.

They looked real.

Almost too real.

“He’s trying to make it appear like you helped him.””

I felt cold.

“Did I?””

Julian looked at me.

“No.””

“I mean unknowingly.””

Marcus sat down beside us.

“That’s what he wants people to think.””

I stared at the documents.

Then something clicked.

“Wait.””

Everyone looked at me.

“These signatures.””

“What about them?””

“They’re wrong.””

Julian leaned closer.

I pointed.

“I signed documents using a different signature after we changed banks three years ago.””

Marcus looked surprised.

“You remember that?””

“Yes.””

Because Adrian had made me sign so many things.

So many papers.

So many agreements.

I remembered every detail now.

Julian smiled.

“He forged them.””

My chest tightened.

“Then prove it.””

Marcus nodded.

“We will.””

That afternoon, I received another surprise.

A woman came to my parents’ house.

Her name was Rachel Morgan.

She had been Adrian’s former assistant.

And she looked terrified.

“I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner.””

I invited her inside.

“Why now?””

She looked at the ground.

“Because I realized he would never stop.””

Rachel explained that she had worked with Adrian for four years.

During that time, she witnessed everything.

The hidden accounts.

The manipulated reports.

The intimidation.

“But I was scared.””

I understood.

More than she knew.

“What changed?””

She looked at me.

“You.””

I was surprised.

“Me?””

“When I saw the video from the gala…”

She swallowed.

“I remembered every woman who stayed silent because of him.””

Rachel opened her bag.

Inside was a small drive.

“I saved copies.””

Julian immediately reached for it.

“What’s on this?””

“Emails.””

Rachel looked at me.

“Between Adrian and his partners.””

My heart raced.

“About what?””

She whispered:

“About removing you from his life.””

The room went silent.

“What?””

Rachel looked ashamed.

“He planned it.””

A chill moved through me.

“Planned what?””

“Your divorce.””

I stared at her.

“He was preparing to divorce me?””

“Yes.””

“How long?””

Rachel hesitated.

“Almost a year.””

A year.

A year while I cooked for him.

A year while I defended him.

A year while I tried to save our marriage.

He was already planning my replacement.

Vanessa wasn’t an accident.

She was part of the plan.

Rachel continued.

“He wanted everything.””

My voice became quiet.

“What everything?””

“The money.””

“The house.””

“The public sympathy.””

I laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because the cruelty was unbelievable.

He didn’t just want to leave me.

He wanted to destroy me first.

Marcus looked furious.

“He made a mistake.””

I looked at the drive.

“No.””

I shook my head.

“He made many.””

That night, we opened the files.

And we found something worse.

A conversation between Adrian and his attorney.

A conversation recorded months before the gala.

Adrian’s voice filled the room.

“If she becomes a problem, I need a solution.””

His attorney asked:

“What kind of solution?””

Adrian answered:

“One where nobody believes her.””

Nobody spoke.

Then the recording continued.

“I built her entire identity around being my wife.””

A pause.

“She has nothing without me.””

I closed my eyes.

Because those words hurt more than the slap.

Not because they were true.

Because they showed exactly how he saw me.

Not as a person.

As an extension of himself.

But Adrian made one mistake.

He forgot something.

I was never created by him.

May you like

I existed before him.

And I would exist after him.
