Chapter 6: The Battle for the Name Vale

Three days later, Adrian Vale launched his biggest attack.

And it failed before it even began.

He called a press conference.

Everyone expected him to apologize.

To accept responsibility.

To admit mistakes.

Instead, he stood behind a podium and did what he always did.

He performed.

"I have been unfairly removed from the company I helped build.""

The cameras flashed.

Reporters listened.

"I dedicated five years of my life to Vale Meridian.""

A lie wrapped in confidence.

I watched from my office.

Claire stood beside me.

"Do you want to respond?""

I shook my head.

"Not yet.""

"Why?""

"Because he still thinks this is a battle of opinions.""

I looked at the screen.

"But it’s not.""

The truth was coming.

And truth did not need a microphone.

Adrian continued.

"I believe shareholders deserve transparency.""

That almost made me smile.

Transparency.

The man who hid millions in corporate expenses was demanding transparency.

Then came the moment I knew he had gone too far.

"I believe Eleanor Ashcroft used her family influence to manipulate the company and sabotage my leadership.""

Claire looked at me.

"He’s accusing you publicly.""

"Yes.""

"What now?""

I stood.

"Now we show everyone who actually protected this company.""

An hour later, Ashcroft Holdings released a statement.

Not from me.

From the board.

The statement included financial records.

Investment history.

Ownership documents.

Corporate audits.

Every fact Adrian had ignored.

Within minutes, the story changed.

The media stopped asking why Eleanor Ashcroft removed Adrian Vale.

They started asking how Adrian Vale survived so long without knowing who his actual employer was.

The internet exploded.

Business analysts reviewed the documents.

Investors reacted.

And Adrian’s carefully created image began collapsing.

That evening, my phone rang.

Adrian.

I almost ignored it.

But I answered.

"Hello.""

His voice was different.

No arrogance.

No performance.

"You ruined me.""

I closed my eyes.

"Again, Adrian. You did that yourself.""

"You embarrassed me.""

I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

After everything.

He still thought the problem was humiliation.

Not betrayal.

Not dishonesty.

Not the damage he caused.

"You stood on a stage and called me your biggest mistake.""

Silence.

"You kissed another woman in front of everyone we knew.""

Silence.

"You used my company’s resources to impress her.""

His breathing changed.

"I made mistakes.""

"No.""

My voice was steady.

"You made choices.""

Another silence.

Then quietly:

"Do you still love me?""

That question hurt.

Not because I wanted him back.

Because a part of me mourned the man I thought he was.

"I loved the person I believed you were.""

A pause.

"But I don’t know you anymore.""

Adrian whispered my name.

"Eleanor.""

I ended the call.

Not because I hated him.

Because I finally respected myself.

The next morning, I walked into Vale Meridian Group as the new Executive Chairwoman.

The employees stood.

Not because they were afraid.

Because they understood.

The woman they once thought was only the CEO’s wife had always been the person carrying the entire company.

And somewhere across the city, Adrian Vale was learning the hardest lesson of his life.

A man can borrow a crown.

He can wear it.

He can convince the world it belongs to him.

But eventually, someone will ask the one question he never prepared for.

Who actually owns it?

May you like

And this time, everyone knew the answer.

Eleanor Ashcroft.
