Chapter 6: The Video That Changed Everything

Michael didn’t speak for almost a minute.

He just stared at the phone.

Then at the hidden camera.

Then at me.

I hated that moment.

Not because he accused me.

He didn’t.

But because he was wondering.

And sometimes, wondering hurt more than anger.

“Michael,” I whispered.

He closed his eyes.

“I don’t know what to think.””

That sentence cut deeper than I expected.

I stepped back.

“After everything she did?””

“I know.””

“She hurt Noah.””

“I know.””

“She lied to you.””

“I know.””

“Then why are you looking at me like I’m the problem?””

His face softened.

“I’m not.””

“But you’re scared.””

He didn’t deny it.

Because he was.

We had spent years building trust.

And Patricia had destroyed it in one day.

Not by proving something.

By making us question everything.

Michael picked up the camera frame.

“We need to see the footage.””

I nodded.

Because I needed the truth too.

He connected the device to his laptop.

Minutes later, the video appeared.

A timeline filled the screen.

Days.

Hours.

Recordings.

My hands went cold.

There were hundreds of hours.

Our private moments.

Noah sleeping.

Me feeding him.

Michael coming home from work.

Everything.

I felt sick.

“How long has she had this?””

Michael didn’t answer.

He was scrolling.

Then he stopped.

“Three nights ago.””

He clicked.

The video loaded.

The timestamp appeared.

11:47 PM.

I remembered that night.

Michael had been working late.

I had been exhausted.

Noah had been crying because he was teething.

The video showed our bedroom.

Then me walking in carrying Noah.

I watched myself sit on the edge of the bed.

I looked tired.

Broken.

But nothing was wrong.

Then the door opened.

My breath caught.

Patricia walked in.

I turned toward the screen.

“What is she doing?””

Michael didn’t answer.

The video continued.

Patricia stood there holding something.

A piece of paper.

She placed it on the bed.

Then she said something I couldn’t hear.

The audio was muted.

Michael increased the volume.

Static.

Then Patricia’s voice came through.

“You need to stop pretending everything is fine.””

I froze.

Because I remembered that night.

I remembered Patricia visiting.

But I didn’t remember this conversation.

The video continued.

Patricia leaned closer to me.

“You’re not a good mother.””

My chest tightened.

Michael looked at me.

“She said that?””

I couldn’t answer.

Because I was watching my own memory from someone else’s eyes.

Then Patricia placed the paper in front of me.

And I heard her next words.

“If Michael finds out what happened, he’ll take Noah away from you.””

My blood ran cold.

“What happened?””

Michael whispered.

The video showed me looking terrified.

Then Patricia said something that made both of us freeze.

“You should have told him the truth about the night Noah was born.””

I stopped breathing.

Because I knew exactly what she meant.

The secret I had buried.

The secret I had never told Michael.

The video ended.

The screen went black.

Michael slowly turned toward me.

“Sarah…”

I couldn’t look at him.

Because now there was no avoiding it.

The truth I had hidden for six months was finally standing between us.

May you like

And before I could explain, Michael whispered:

“What happened the night our son was born?””
