Chapter 2: The Billionaire’s Last Message
The room felt smaller than it had moments before.
Victoria Vance had spent her entire life surrounded by power.
She was raised among politicians, celebrities, and billionaires.
She learned early that money could open doors.
Money could silence accusations.
Money could erase mistakes.
But standing in the center of her father's mansion, surrounded by witnesses and a recording device she could not control, she felt something she had not experienced in years.
Uncertainty.
She slowly placed the crystal goblet onto the table.
"You are all making a serious mistake.""
Daniel Cross remained silent.
Margaret Hale did not blink.
Elena stood trembling, but she no longer looked defeated.
Victoria noticed.
That bothered her more than anything.
Because servants were supposed to fear her.
Employees were supposed to lower their heads.
People inside Vance Manor were supposed to understand one simple rule.
The Vances controlled the story.
But tonight, someone else had picked up the pen.
"You think you can walk into my home and accuse me?"" Victoria said.
Margaret opened the folder.
"This is not your home.""
The sentence landed harder than expected.
Victoria laughed.
A cold, sharp laugh.
"Everything my father owned belongs to me.""
Margaret looked down at the documents.
"Interesting.""
She removed another paper.
"Because Alexander Vance apparently disagreed.""
Victoria's smile disappeared.
"What?""
Daniel stepped forward.
"Mr. Vance changed his estate plan two weeks before his death.""
Victoria stared at him.
"No.""
"He created a private amendment.""
"No.""
"He sealed it with instructions that it could only be opened if suspicious activity was discovered inside the house.""
Victoria's hands tightened.
"You expect me to believe my father trusted you more than his own daughter?""
Margaret's expression remained calm.
"Your father trusted facts more than feelings.""
The words hit a nerve.
Victoria remembered the last conversation she had with Alexander.
The argument.
The accusations.
The way he looked at her before closing his office door.
At the time, she thought he was simply angry.
Now she wondered.
Had he known?
Had he discovered everything?
A sudden realization moved across her face.
"The office.""
Everyone looked at her.
Victoria immediately corrected herself.
"I mean...""
Too late.
Daniel noticed.
Margaret noticed.
Elena noticed.
Everyone noticed.
Margaret slowly smiled.
"You are worried about something inside his office.""
Victoria said nothing.
Because silence was safer.
But everyone in the room already had their answer.
The Vance family had always believed they were untouchable.
They believed servants were invisible.
They believed money could bury every crime.
But they made one mistake.
They underestimated the people who watched them.
And they underestimated a dying man's ability to prepare one final move.
Daniel walked toward the staircase.
"Mr. Vance left one more instruction.""
Victoria followed him with her eyes.
"What instruction?""
Daniel stopped.
"He said...""
The security chief paused.
Then looked directly at her.
"If Victoria ever tries to destroy evidence, open the hidden vault beneath the library.""
The color drained from Victoria's face.
Because she knew exactly what was inside that vault.
And she knew exactly who had access.
Nobody moved.
The mansion waited.
The ocean crashed against the cliffs outside.
May you like
And beneath the beautiful surface of the Vance empire...
The first crack had finally appeared.
