Chapter 2: The Secret Hidden Inside The Old Leather Folder

Monica Hayes had handled thousands of customers.

She had dealt with celebrities.

Athletes.

Foreign investors.

Business owners.

People who walked into Sterling Exotic Motors expecting the world to move around them.

She knew how to read people.

At least, she thought she did.

But Marcus Reed was different.

He wasn't trying to impress anyone.

He wasn't trying to negotiate.

He wasn't even trying to buy attention.

That bothered Monica more than anything.

Because wealthy people usually wanted to be recognized.

They wanted employees to know who they were.

Marcus wanted the opposite.

He wanted to be ignored.

And that made him dangerous.

“Sir,” Monica said carefully, “you mentioned knowing Mr. Sterling.””

Marcus nodded.

“Yes.””

“May I ask how?””

Marcus looked around the showroom.

The employees had started pretending not to listen.

But everyone was listening.

“The first time I met Adrian Sterling,” Marcus said, “he wasn't driving a Ferrari.””

Monica waited.

“He wasn't wearing expensive clothes.””

Another pause.

“He wasn't famous.””

Marcus looked at the shining vehicles around him.

“He was sleeping in a storage room behind an auto repair shop.””

Ethan's expression changed.

That didn't sound like the billionaire he knew.

Everyone knew Adrian Sterling's story.

At least, the public version.

A young entrepreneur.

A genius businessman.

A man who built an empire from nothing.

But nobody talked about the people who were there before the success.

Monica forced a polite smile.

“Mr. Sterling has many stories from his early years.””

Marcus looked at her.

“This isn't a story.””

His tone was calm.

“It happened.””

The room became quieter.

Marcus opened the folder again.

Inside were photographs.

Old photographs.

The kind printed before phones carried cameras.

He removed one carefully.

Then he placed it on the hood of the Ferrari.

Ethan stepped closer.

The photograph showed two young men standing beside a broken-down vehicle.

One was Marcus.

The other was a younger Adrian Sterling.

Much younger.

No expensive suit.

No confidence.

No billionaire image.

Just two men covered in grease, standing beside an old repair garage.

Monica stared.

She recognized Adrian immediately.

Even decades younger, she knew his face.

“How did you get this?””

Marcus smiled slightly.

“I was there.””

Ethan looked at the photo.

“You worked with him?””

Marcus nodded.

“For eleven years.””

Monica looked confused.

“Eleven years?””

“Yes.””

“Then why have I never heard your name?””

Marcus didn't answer immediately.

That silence was louder than words.

Finally, he said:

“Because Adrian Sterling became very good at removing certain parts of his history.””

Monica's face tightened.

“That is a serious accusation.””

Marcus looked at her.

“No.””

He closed the folder.

“It is a serious truth.””

Before Monica could respond, a voice came from behind them.

“What exactly is going on here?””

Everyone turned.

A man in a dark navy suit entered the showroom.

Adrian Sterling.

The owner.

The billionaire himself.

He was sixty-one years old.

Silver hair.

Perfect suit.

The kind of confidence that came from decades of winning.

The employees immediately straightened.

Monica stepped forward.

“Mr. Sterling, this gentleman says he knows you.””

Adrian looked at Marcus.

And stopped.

For a brief moment, something passed across his face.

Shock.

Fear.

Recognition.

It disappeared quickly.

But Ethan saw it.

Marcus noticed too.

“Hello, Adrian.””

Nobody spoke.

Because Adrian Sterling, a man known for controlling every room he entered, suddenly looked like he had forgotten how to breathe.

“Marcus.””

The way he said the name was different.

Not like a stranger.

Like a ghost.

Monica looked between them.

“You know each other?””

Adrian ignored the question.

“What are you doing here?””

Marcus looked around.

“I came to see the Ferrari.””

Adrian's eyes moved to the leather folder.

Then back to Marcus.

“No.””

His voice lowered.

“You came because of the folder.””

The employees exchanged confused looks.

Marcus smiled sadly.

“Still hiding things after all these years?””

Adrian's jaw tightened.

“Not here.””

“Why not?””

Marcus looked around the showroom.

“Because this place is built on the story you wanted everyone to believe.””

Adrian stepped closer.

“Be careful.””

Marcus didn't move.

“I was careful for twenty-seven years.””

The words hit harder than shouting.

Ethan watched Adrian carefully.

This wasn't a business conversation.

This was personal.

Very personal.

Marcus opened the folder one more time.

“I didn't come here to ruin you.””

Adrian remained silent.

“I came because someone deserves to know the truth.””

Adrian's expression changed.

“Who?””

Marcus looked directly at him.

“Your daughter.””

The entire showroom went still.

Monica's eyes widened.

Adrian's face lost color.

“My daughter has nothing to do with this.””

Marcus shook his head.

“She has everything to do with this.””

He pulled out one final document.

A single piece of paper.

Old.

Folded.

Protected for years.

Adrian stared at it.

And for the first time, the billionaire looked afraid.

Because he knew exactly what was inside.

“You kept that?””

Marcus nodded.

“I promised someone I would.””

Adrian whispered:

“She should have destroyed it.””

Marcus looked at him.

“She tried.””

A long silence followed.

Then Marcus said the sentence that changed everything.

“But before she disappeared, she made sure I would find it.””

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because suddenly the Ferrari showroom wasn't about luxury cars anymore.

May you like

It was about a secret buried for nearly three decades.

And Adrian Sterling knew the past he escaped was finally standing in front of him.
