Chapter 6: The Woman He Tried to Erase

Three days later, Adrian’s name disappeared from every charity headline.

Not because people forgot him.

Because people finally saw him.

The foundation board removed him temporarily while investigations continued.

Sponsors withdrew.

Partners demanded explanations.

The same people who once surrounded him suddenly became unavailable.

That was how power worked.

People loved standing beside success.

Very few stayed beside failure.

I watched everything happen from a distance.

And strangely…

I didn’t feel victorious.

I felt empty.

Because revenge was never what I wanted.

I wanted my husband back.

The man from eight years ago.

The man who held my hand when I was sick.

The man who told me I was his greatest blessing.

But that man had been gone for a long time.

I just refused to accept it.

That evening, I found Adrian waiting outside the old house.

The place where we first visited after getting married.

The place where he told me we would build a future together.

He looked different.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

For the first time, he looked like a man who had lost everything.

“Elena.””

I stopped walking.

“You shouldn’t be here.””

“I needed to see you.””

“No.””

He swallowed.

“Please.””

I almost hated that word.

Because it sounded like the same man.

The same voice.

The same person I loved.

But I knew better now.

“What do you want?””

He looked at me.

“I want my wife back.””

The sentence almost broke me.

Almost.

Then I remembered the ballroom.

The slap.

The humiliation.

The woman beside him.

“You don’t miss me.””

His eyes changed.

“I do.””

“No.””

I shook my head.

“You miss the woman who made your life easier.””

He didn’t answer.

Because he knew.

I stepped closer.

“You miss the wife who fixed your mistakes.””

Silence.

“The wife who wrote your speeches.””

Another step.

“The wife who protected your reputation.””

His eyes lowered.

“And you miss the wife who never challenged you.””

That was when I saw it.

The realization.

The truth finally reached him.

He had never wanted an equal.

He wanted someone who disappeared behind him.

“I was wrong,” he whispered.

I looked at him.

“Yes.””

“I know I hurt you.””

“Yes.””

“I can change.””

I looked at the man standing in front of me.

The man asking for another chance after destroying the first one.

“Adrian.””

He looked up.

“Some things break because they are weak.””

I paused.

“But some things break because they were never what they claimed to be.””

His face fell.

I walked past him.

And for the first time in eight years…

I didn’t look back.

Because tomorrow, the investigation would begin.

And the world would finally learn the truth.

May you like

Not about the woman Adrian betrayed.

But about the woman he never bothered to know.
