Chapter 6: The Enemy Inside His Castle

Adrian returned to his office that evening believing he could still win.

That was the difference between us.

I had finally accepted reality.

He was still fighting an illusion.

The illusion that money solved everything.

The illusion that reputation mattered more than truth.

The illusion that I would eventually come back.

His assistant greeted him nervously.

“Mr. Cross?””

Adrian looked up.

“What?””

“There’s someone waiting in your office.””

“Who?””

The assistant hesitated.

“Daniel Reeves.””

Adrian froze.

Daniel.

His chief financial officer.

The man who had worked beside him for six years.

The man who knew every number.

Every transaction.

Every secret.

Adrian walked into his office.

Daniel stood near the window.

“You’re making a mistake being here.””

Daniel turned.

“No.””

His voice was calm.

“I’m making a mistake staying silent.””

Adrian closed the door.

“What do you want?””

Daniel placed a folder on the desk.

“I want this to end before more people get hurt.””

Adrian looked at the folder.

“What is this?””

“Copies.””

“Of what?””

Daniel looked directly at him.

“Everything.””

For the first time that day, Adrian felt genuine fear.

“You’re threatening me?””

“No.””

Daniel shook his head.

“I’m protecting myself.””

Adrian opened the folder.

His face changed as he read.

Because Daniel had something Adrian never expected.

Proof.

Not rumors.

Not accusations.

Proof.

The financial records.

The hidden transfers.

The fake companies.

The payments connected to Vanessa.

Adrian’s hands tightened.

“You worked for me.””

“I did.””

“And now?””

Daniel looked tired.

“Now I realize I worked for a man who destroyed the one person who stood beside him.””

Adrian slammed the folder shut.

“You think Elena is innocent?””

Daniel stared at him.

“That’s your defense?””

Silence.

“You hurt your wife, betrayed her, used your charity for your image, and your argument is that she isn’t perfect?””

Adrian had no answer.

Because there wasn’t one.

Daniel walked toward the door.

“One more thing.””

Adrian looked up.

“What?””

“The board is meeting tomorrow.””

His heart dropped.

“What meeting?””

“They know.””

Adrian stood.

“Who told them?””

Daniel opened the door.

“Your wife.””

That night, Adrian finally understood something.

The woman he thought he had broken…

Had become the person who could bring him down.

And somewhere across the city, I sat with my brothers preparing for the next battle.

Because this was no longer about revenge.

It was about justice.
