Chapter 9: The Truth Buried With Michael

Frank Miller had spent his entire life believing he could recognize danger.

He was wrong.

Danger did not always stand in front of you.

Sometimes it stood beside you.

Sometimes it shook your hand.

Sometimes it called you brother.

The Steel Ravens gathered at the clubhouse again.

Nobody spoke.

The atmosphere had changed.

Trust was gone.

Not completely.

But enough.

Frank placed Sarah’s letter on the table.

“Hawk knew.””

Marcus shook his head.

“I don’t want to believe that.””

Frank looked at him.

“Neither do I.””

Renee studied the letter.

“Who was Sarah talking about?””

Frank looked at the words again.

“The person we trusted most.””

Everyone became quiet.

Then Cole spoke.

“Frank.””

“What?””

“Think.””

Frank looked at him.

Cole continued.

“Who knew Michael before he disappeared?””

Frank froze.

The answer came slowly.

Not Hawk.

Someone else.

Someone closer.

Someone who knew Michael’s habits.

His plans.

His fears.

A memory suddenly returned.

The night Michael vanished.

Frank had received a phone call.

A person telling him Michael had left town.

A person telling him not to chase him.

A person telling him it was better to let him go.

Frank had believed that person.

Because he trusted them.

Because they had been there his whole life.

Frank whispered:

“My father.””

Nobody expected that.

Renee looked shocked.

“Your father?””

Frank nodded slowly.

“My father was the one who told me Michael ran away.””

The room became silent.

“But he’s been dead for years.””

Frank looked at the documents.

“The lies started long before Dean.””

He grabbed his jacket.

“Find everything connected to my family.””

Marcus looked at him.

“Frank?””

“I need answers.””

They searched old records.

Old club files.

Old photographs.

And they found something hidden.

A photograph from twenty years earlier.

Frank’s father.

Hawk.

Dean’s father.

And another man.

A man Frank recognized.

Vincent Cole.

They had all been connected.

Not recently.

For decades.

Frank stared at the picture.

This was not a new conspiracy.

It was something that had been growing quietly for years.

Then Detective Reed arrived.

“We found Sarah.””

Everyone turned.

Frank stepped forward.

“Where?””

“She contacted us.””

“Is she safe?””

Reed hesitated.

“She’s alive.””

Frank felt relief.

Then he saw Reed’s expression.

“What?””

“She’s asking for you.””

Frank immediately left.

They found Sarah at an old cabin hidden deep in the mountains.

When Frank saw her, he almost did not recognize her.

She looked older.

Tired.

But alive.

Lily ran first.

“Mom!””

Sarah collapsed into tears as she hugged her daughter.

Ben held onto her.

For several minutes, nobody spoke.

Frank stood back.

Because this moment belonged to them.

Eventually Sarah looked at him.

“Frank.””

He nodded.

“Sarah.””

Her eyes filled.

“I’m sorry.””

Frank shook his head.

“Don’t.””

“But I should have told you.””

“Yes.””

The honesty surprised her.

Frank continued.

“But right now, I need the truth.””

Sarah looked down.

“I found out Michael was investigating a group.””

“What group?””

“People who targeted families with money.””

Frank waited.

“Insurance. Property. Inheritance.””

Dean.

Sarah nodded.

“He was just a small part.””

“Who was controlling it?””

Sarah looked at Frank.

And he saw fear.

Real fear.

“It was someone who had access to everything.””

“Who?””

She whispered:

“Your brother.””

Frank froze.

“What?””

“Not Michael.””

Sarah shook her head.

“Your other brother.””

Frank felt the blood leave his face.

He had no other brother.

Then Sarah said:

“The one nobody talks about.””

The room became silent.

Frank stared.

“There was no other brother.””

Sarah looked at him.

“That’s what they wanted you to believe.””

Before Frank could answer, a motorcycle engine roared outside.

Everyone turned.

A figure stepped from the shadows.

Older.

Scarred.

Familiar.

Frank’s heart stopped.

The man removed his helmet.

And Frank Miller finally understood why Michael had disappeared.

Because the truth was not buried.

It had been waiting.

The man looked at him.

“Hello, Frank.””

Frank whispered one word.

“Thomas.””

May you like

The brother he never knew existed.

The brother everyone erased.
