Chapter 3: The Secret Hidden Behind the Perfect Marriage

For twelve hours, Harrison Cole did not leave the hospital.

Not once.

Doctors came and went.

Nurses checked Khloe’s condition every few minutes.

Machines continued their quiet rhythm beside the bed.

And Harrison remained in the same chair, watching his sister sleep.

The world outside was already changing.

News outlets were reporting the courthouse incident.

Social media was exploding with speculation.

People who had never met Khloe were discussing her life as if they understood every detail.

But Harrison ignored all of it.

Because there was only one question that mattered.

Would his sister and her baby survive?

At 4:37 in the morning, a doctor finally walked into the room.

Harrison stood immediately.

“Tell me.””

The doctor removed his glasses and looked exhausted.

“Your sister is stable.””

For the first time all night, Harrison allowed himself to breathe.

“But there are concerns.””

His expression changed.

“What concerns?””

“The fall caused significant trauma. We were able to stop the bleeding, but the next twenty-four hours are critical.””

Harrison nodded slowly.

“And the baby?””

“The baby’s heartbeat is strong.””

A small crack appeared in Harrison’s emotionless expression.

Not a smile.

Not relief.

Something deeper.

Gratitude.

“Thank you.””

The doctor nodded.

“Your sister is lucky.””

Harrison looked through the glass window at Khloe.

“No.””

His voice was quiet.

“She’s strong.””

The doctor left.

Harrison stayed.

Because he knew something.

Surviving the fall was only the beginning.

The physical damage could be treated.

The emotional damage was different.

And Harrison knew exactly who had caused it.

By sunrise, the hospital hallway had changed.

Security guards stood near the entrance.

Reporters gathered outside.

Lawyers arrived carrying folders.

Everyone wanted something.

A statement.

A reaction.

A piece of the story.

But Harrison gave them nothing.

He walked through the hospital lobby with the same controlled expression he wore in courtrooms.

A reporter stepped forward.

“Mr. Cole, is it true that your sister was attacked by her husband’s mistress?””

Another shouted:

“Will Vanessa Kensington face criminal charges?””

A third called:

“Did Richard Harrington know about the affair?””

Harrison stopped.

The entire lobby became silent.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then Harrison spoke.

“My sister’s medical condition is my only concern.””

The reporters waited.

“But whoever caused this will be held accountable.””

That was all he said.

Then he walked away.

Yet those few words were enough.

Because everyone knew Harrison Cole did not make empty statements.

If he promised accountability, someone was about to face consequences.

Across town, Richard Harrington watched the news from his penthouse office.

The city skyline stretched behind him.

Normally, the view made him feel powerful.

Successful.

Untouchable.

Today, it looked different.

Like a prison.

His phone had not stopped ringing.

Investors.

Board members.

Employees.

Everyone wanted answers.

The Harrington Commercial Group had spent years building an image of stability.

A respected CEO.

A perfect marriage.

A powerful family.

Now one courthouse staircase had destroyed the illusion.

His assistant entered carefully.

“Mr. Harrington?””

Richard did not turn.

“What?””

“The board wants an emergency meeting.””

“Not now.””

“They said it’s urgent.””

Richard finally looked over.

His assistant hesitated.

“There are concerns about the company’s reputation.””

Richard laughed bitterly.

“My wife is in the hospital, and they’re worried about reputation?””

The assistant said nothing.

Because everyone knew the truth.

Richard was not only facing a personal disaster.

He was facing a professional one.

A scandal involving a CEO, an affair, and an injured pregnant wife could destroy years of carefully managed public trust.

“Cancel everything.””

The assistant looked surprised.

“Everything?””

“Yes.””

Richard walked toward the window.

“I need to handle this myself.””

But even as he said it, he knew something.

He was too late.

Because Harrison Cole was already handling it.

And Harrison did not handle problems.

He ended them.

Two days later, Khloe finally woke up completely.

The first thing she felt was pain.

Not the sharp pain from the fall.

Something heavier.

A sadness she could not explain.

Then she remembered.

The staircase.

Vanessa.

Richard.

The betrayal.

Her hand immediately moved toward her stomach.

A nurse noticed.

“Your baby is okay.””

Khloe looked up.

“Really?””

The nurse smiled gently.

“Yes.””

A tear rolled down Khloe’s cheek.

The relief was overwhelming.

“Can I see my brother?””

“He hasn’t left.””

Khloe closed her eyes.

Of course he had not.

That was Harrison.

When they were children, he had been the same way.

Protective.

Stubborn.

Always watching over her.

Their parents had died when Khloe was young, leaving Harrison to become more than just an older brother.

He became her protector.

Her teacher.

Her family.

When other children teased her, Harrison was there.

When she failed her first driving test, Harrison was there.

When she cried after her first heartbreak, Harrison was there.

And now, when her entire world collapsed, he was there again.

The door opened.

“Hey.””

Khloe smiled weakly.

“Harry.””

Harrison walked in.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Khloe noticed his suit.

The same one.

Still damaged.

“You haven’t changed.””

Harrison glanced down.

“It wasn’t important.””

She frowned.

“Harry.””

“What?””

“You wore a blood-covered suit for two days?””

He looked away.

“It reminded me why I’m fighting.””

Khloe’s eyes filled with tears.

“You don’t have to fight for me.””

“Yes.””

The answer came instantly.

She stared at him.

“Yes, I do.””

Silence.

Then Khloe whispered:

“I should have known.””

Harrison sat beside her.

“Known what?””

“That Richard stopped loving me.””

His expression softened.

“Khloe…”

“I kept making excuses.””

She looked down.

“I thought if I tried harder…”

Her voice broke.

“If I became a better wife…”

Harrison interrupted.

“No.””

She looked at him.

“No?””

“You were never the problem.””

Those words were simple.

But after months of feeling unwanted, they meant everything.

Khloe wiped her tears.

“I spent years trying to give him a family.””

Harrison’s jaw tightened.

“And he repaid you by betraying you.””

She closed her eyes.

“I don’t even hate Vanessa.””

That surprised him.

“Why?””

“Because she only knew the version of Richard he showed her.””

Harrison studied his sister.

Even after everything, she still searched for understanding.

That was what made her different.

But Harrison also knew kindness could become dangerous when others took advantage of it.

“Khloe.””

“Yes?””

“You need to hear something.””

His voice became serious.

“This was not just an affair.””

She looked confused.

“What do you mean?””

Harrison opened the folder he had brought.

Inside were documents.

Photographs.

Financial records.

Khloe stared.

“What is this?””

“Information.””

“About Richard?””

“Yes.””

Her heart began beating faster.

“What did you find?””

Harrison looked at the papers.

“For months, I thought Richard was just a man who made selfish choices.””

A pause.

“I was wrong.””

Khloe’s face changed.

“What are you saying?””

“I’m saying your husband has been hiding things.””

The room became silent.

“Business things?””

“Personal things.””

Harrison placed one document on the table.

Khloe looked down.

Her eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

“What is this?””

“A transfer.””

“From Richard’s company?””

“Yes.””

“To who?””

Harrison did not answer immediately.

Because the name on the document changed everything.

Khloe read it again.

Then again.

Her face slowly lost color.

“No…”

Harrison watched her carefully.

“I’m sorry.””

She looked up.

“That’s impossible.””

“It’s not.””

“Richard would never…”

But even she could not finish the sentence.

Because deep down, she was no longer sure who Richard Harrington was.

Harrison closed the folder.

“There’s more.””

Khloe looked terrified.

“How much more?””

His silence answered.

Enough.

Outside the hospital, cameras continued waiting.

Inside, a marriage that had already been broken was about to reveal something far worse.

Because Vanessa Kensington had thought she was fighting for a man.

Khloe had thought she was fighting to save a marriage.

But Harrison had discovered the truth.

May you like

They were all standing in the middle of something much bigger.

And Richard Harrington had spent years making sure nobody saw what was hidden beneath the surface.
