Chapter 4: The Name Hidden in My Father’s Last Warning

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The storage unit felt smaller than it had before.

The air that had once carried hope now felt heavy with suspicion.

My father’s final words were still burning in my mind.

*Trust the men who wear this patch. But trust only them. Because one of them betrayed me.*

I looked around the room.

At the faces of the men who had laughed with my father.

The men who said they loved him.

The men who claimed they wanted to protect me.

One of them had betrayed him.

And none of them knew who.

Or maybe one of them did.

Razor slowly reached for the letter.

I pulled it back.

Not because I didn’t trust him.

Because suddenly, I didn’t know who I could trust.

His expression changed.

Not anger.

Understanding.

He had spent years chasing the truth about my father.

Now the truth was standing right in front of us.

And it was worse than any of us imagined.

"Emily," Razor said quietly.

I stared at him.

"Did you know?""

His eyebrows tightened.

"Know what?""

"That one of you did this.""

Nobody spoke.

The other bikers looked at each other.

Tommy shook his head.

"Kid, if someone here betrayed Daniel, we want to know more than anyone.""

"But how do I know that?""

The question hurt.

I could see it on their faces.

Because they realized something.

To me, they weren't heroes.

They were strangers.

Strangers connected to the worst moment of my life.

Razor nodded slowly.

"You don't.""

He looked down.

"And that's our fault.""

I didn't expect that answer.

He stepped closer.

"Daniel trusted us. We failed him once.""

His voice lowered.

"We won't fail him again.""

Before anyone could respond, a sound came from outside.

A car door closing.

Everyone froze.

The bikers immediately changed.

The relaxed men from the diner disappeared.

These were men who knew danger.

Razor walked toward the entrance.

"Stay behind me.""

I hated those words.

Because my entire life people told me to stay behind.

Stay quiet.

Stay out of trouble.

But trouble always found me anyway.

I followed him.

Outside the storage facility, the parking lot was empty.

Too empty.

Razor scanned the area.

Nothing.

Then Tommy noticed something.

A small object lying beside Razor's truck.

He picked it up.

A bullet casing.

Everyone became silent.

"Someone was here," Tommy said.

Razor looked at me.

"They know you're with us.""

My stomach dropped.

"How?""

Nobody answered.

Because there was only one possible explanation.

Someone had followed us.

Someone knew about the storage unit.

Someone knew my father’s secrets were coming back.

We moved quickly.

The bikers loaded everything from the storage unit into the trucks.

The box.

The documents.

The recording device.

Everything.

Except one thing.

The letter.

I kept that.

It was the only thing my father had left me.

As we drove away, Razor’s phone rang.

He answered.

The color disappeared from his face.

"What?""

Everyone looked at him.

He listened silently.

Then his hand tightened around the steering wheel.

"What happened?""

A pause.

Then:

"Are you sure?""

I watched his expression.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

He ended the call.

"Who was that?"" Tommy asked.

Razor didn't answer immediately.

Finally, he said:

"The police.""

My heart sank.

"What did they want?""

Razor looked at me through the mirror.

"They found someone.""

"Who?""

His silence scared me more than the answer.

"They found a man connected to Daniel's case.""

I waited.

"Who?""

Razor swallowed.

"His name is Marcus Vale.""

The name meant nothing to me.

But the reaction around me did.

The other bikers looked shocked.

One whispered:

"No.""

Razor nodded.

"Yes.""

I looked between them.

"Who is he?""

May you like

Razor stared ahead.

"Someone who was supposed to be dead.""
