Chapter 6: The Secret Daughter of the Bellacorte Empire

Victoria did not tell anyone that Elizabeth Hart was alive.

That was the first decision she made after the phone call.

Not Marcus.

Not Helena.

Not even Arthur.

For eleven months, she had watched people use information as a weapon.

Every secret became leverage.

Every confession became a weakness.

Every person who knew something became someone who could be controlled.

So Victoria did the opposite of what everyone expected.

She stayed silent.

But this time, her silence was not grief.

It was strategy.

The next morning, the Bellacorte mansion looked exactly the same.

The staff polished the floors.

The gardeners trimmed the hedges.

The security team watched every entrance.

The world outside still believed the Bellacorte family was unbreakable.

They were wrong.

Inside the walls, everything had changed.

Victoria sat at the head of the dining table, staring at the empty chair where Daniel used to sit.

For years, that chair had represented something.

Leadership.

Authority.

Control.

Now it represented absence.

But she refused to let that absence define her.

“Coffee, Mrs. Bellacorte?””

Victoria looked up.

Emily Reed stood nearby.

Behind her was Noah.

The little boy held a toy car in his hands.

Victoria smiled slightly.

“Yes, thank you.””

Emily poured the coffee.

But she did not leave.

Victoria noticed.

“You wanted to tell me something.””

Emily looked nervous.

“Yes.””

Victoria glanced at Noah.

“Not here.””

Emily nodded.

A few minutes later, they were alone in the smaller sitting room.

Victoria closed the door.

“Tell me.””

Emily took a deep breath.

“Mr. Bellacorte knew someone was watching him.””

Victoria already suspected.

“How do you know?””

“Because he asked me to do something.””

“What?””

Emily reached into her pocket.

She removed a small envelope.

Victoria immediately recognized the handwriting.

Daniel.

Her heart tightened.

“He gave this to me three months before he died.””

Victoria stared.

“Why didn’t you give it to me before?””

Emily looked down.

“Because he told me not to.””

Victoria felt a familiar frustration.

Everyone had followed Daniel’s instructions.

Everyone except her.

“What did he say?””

Emily’s voice became quiet.

“He said if anything happened to him, I should only give it to you when you were ready.””

Victoria looked at the envelope.

“And how would you know when I was ready?””

Emily looked at her.

“Because he said you would stop asking why…”

She paused.

“And start asking who.””

Victoria said nothing.

Because that was exactly what had happened.

She opened the envelope.

Inside was a single page.

Daniel’s handwriting.

Victoria,

If you are reading this, then you have discovered what I spent months trying to hide.

I am sorry.

Not for the secrets.

For making you believe I was keeping them from you because I did not trust you.

The truth is the opposite.

I trusted you more than anyone.

That is why I needed you away from this.

Victoria stopped.

Her eyes blurred for a moment.

She continued.

The people who threaten this family are not interested in money.

Money can be replaced.

They want control.

They want the Bellacorte name.

They believe they deserve what I built.

But there is something you need to know.

The biggest threat is not Marcus.

It is not Helena.

It is someone who knows how to make everyone believe they are innocent.

Someone who has spent years standing in the shadows.

Someone who has a legitimate claim to everything.

Victoria’s breathing slowed.

A legitimate claim.

Daniel continued.

Find Elizabeth.

She knows the rest.

Victoria lowered the letter.

Emily watched her carefully.

“Who is Elizabeth?””

Victoria looked at her.

“You know.””

Emily looked away.

That was enough.

“You knew.””

Emily swallowed.

“Yes.””

“How?””

“Because Mr. Bellacorte asked me to help her.””

Victoria stood.

“You helped Elizabeth?””

Emily nodded.

“After she disappeared, she had nowhere to go.””

“Why would Daniel hide her?””

Emily hesitated.

“Because she had a child.””

The room became silent.

Victoria stared.

“What?””

Emily looked at her.

“A daughter.””

Victoria felt the ground shift.

“No.””

“She was born shortly after Elizabeth disappeared.””

Victoria’s mind raced.

A daughter.

Daniel’s daughter.

A child nobody knew existed.

A child who could change everything.

The Bellacorte inheritance.

The company.

The entire empire.

“Where is she?””

Emily looked toward the window.

“I don’t know.””

Victoria studied her.

“You’re lying.””

Emily’s eyes filled with fear.

“I know where she was.””

“Where?””

Emily whispered:

“Here.””

Victoria froze.

“Here?””

“In this house.””

The answer was impossible.

But somehow, nothing surprised Victoria anymore.

“How?””

Emily looked down.

“Daniel brought Elizabeth back secretly after the baby was born.””

“When?””

“Four years ago.””

Victoria felt her chest tighten.

Four years.

Daniel had hidden an entire person from her for four years.

But then she remembered something.

Daniel’s behavior.

The business trips.

The sudden disappearances.

The nights he claimed he was handling company problems.

Victoria had believed him.

Because she loved him.

Because she trusted him.

Because she never imagined the truth would be this large.

“What happened to the child?””

Emily’s voice became softer.

“She was taken away.””

“By who?””

Emily looked terrified.

“I don’t know.””

Victoria leaned closer.

“Emily.””

“I swear.””

The fear in her voice was real.

“Mr. Bellacorte tried to protect them. But someone found out.””

“When?””

“The same week he died.””

Victoria felt a cold sensation.

The same week.

Everything connected.

The secret child.

Marcus’s betrayal.

Daniel’s death.

Elizabeth returning.

It was all part of the same story.

“Where is Elizabeth now?””

Emily shook her head.

“She will tell you herself.””

As if summoned by the words, Victoria’s phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

She answered.

“Elizabeth.””

A pause.

Then a quiet voice.

“Yes.””

Victoria walked away from Emily.

“Where are you?””

“I can’t tell you yet.””

“Why?””

“Because if I tell you, they will know.””

Victoria’s expression hardened.

“They already know everything.””

“No.””

Elizabeth’s voice became urgent.

“They know you are looking.””

A pause.

“But they don’t know what you found.””

Victoria looked out the window.

“What is this really about?””

Silence.

Then Elizabeth answered:

“My daughter.””

Victoria closed her eyes.

“Daniel’s daughter.””

“Yes.””

The words hurt more than Victoria expected.

Not because she hated Elizabeth.

Not because of jealousy.

Because Daniel had died carrying this alone.

And she had spent eleven months believing she knew his final days.

She didn’t.

“Why didn’t Daniel tell me?””

Elizabeth was quiet.

“Because he was afraid.””

“Of me?””

“No.””

Elizabeth’s voice softened.

“Of what would happen to you.””

Victoria looked confused.

“He thought I would be angry.””

“He knew you would be hurt.””

A pause.

“But Daniel also knew something else.””

“What?””

“He knew you would protect her.””

Victoria closed her eyes.

Because she would.

That was the painful truth.

Even now.

Even after everything.

A child was innocent.

A child did not choose the secrets of powerful adults.

“Where is she?””

Elizabeth took a breath.

“She’s closer than you think.””

Victoria’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?””

Before Elizabeth answered, another sound interrupted the call.

A voice in the background.

A man.

Elizabeth suddenly became tense.

“I have to go.””

“Elizabeth—”

The call ended.

Victoria stared at the phone.

Then she heard footsteps outside.

She turned.

Marcus stood at the doorway.

His expression was controlled.

But his eyes were not.

“You seem distracted today.””

Victoria placed the phone down.

“Do I?””

“Yes.””

Marcus entered.

“You have been asking questions.””

Victoria smiled slightly.

“I’m allowed to.””

“Of course.””

He looked around.

“But questions can be dangerous.””

Victoria studied him.

“Are you warning me?””

“I’m advising you.””

“That’s what people say when they want to control someone.””

Marcus’s expression changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

“You have become suspicious.””

“No.””

Victoria walked toward him.

“I have become observant.””

Marcus looked at her.

“You were not like this before.””

Victoria stopped.

“What does that mean?””

“It means Daniel changed you.””

A strange silence followed.

Because Marcus had said something true.

Daniel had changed her.

But not in the way Marcus meant.

Daniel had taught her patience.

He had taught her strength.

He had taught her that people revealed themselves when they thought they were winning.

Victoria looked at Marcus.

“And you?””

“What about me?””

“Did Daniel change you?””

Marcus’s eyes hardened.

“I don’t understand.””

“Neither did Daniel.””

For the first time, Marcus looked genuinely angry.

Only for a second.

But Victoria saw it.

Then she knew.

She had found another crack.

Marcus turned to leave.

Before he reached the door, Victoria spoke.

“Marcus.””

He stopped.

“Where were you the night Daniel died?””

The question froze him.

Because it was the one question nobody had asked.

Not the police.

Not the company.

Not the family.

Everyone had accepted the story.

Daniel had a meeting.

There was an accident.

End of story.

Marcus slowly turned.

“Why are you asking me that?””

Victoria held his gaze.

“Because Daniel spent his final months investigating you.””

Silence.

Then Marcus smiled.

A cold, empty smile.

“Be careful, Victoria.””

She did not move.

“Is that another warning?””

“No.””

He stepped closer.

“It is advice.””

Victoria watched him leave.

Then she looked back at Daniel’s letter.

The biggest threat was not Marcus.

Not Helena.

Someone who had spent years standing in the shadows.

Someone with a legitimate claim.

Someone who could take everything.

Victoria suddenly understood.

The Bellacorte empire was not being attacked from outside.

It was being fought over from within.

And somewhere in the city…

a young girl carrying Daniel Bellacorte’s blood was living without knowing the war that had already started because of her.
