Chapter 14: The Final Test of Their Family

A few months later, the family faced one more challenge.

This time, it wasn’t about jealousy.

It wasn’t about betrayal.

It was about forgiveness.

Mia had started applying for internships.

She had worked hard to rebuild her reputation.

But one company rejected her application.

Then another.

Then another.

At first, she handled it well.

She reminded herself that rejection was normal.

But after several disappointments, the old insecurity started returning.

Maybe she wasn’t good enough.

Maybe people would always remember her mistakes.

Maybe she would always be the person who ruined everything.

One night, David found her sitting alone.

“You okay?””

Mia nodded.

Then shook her head.

“I don’t know.””

He sat beside her.

“What happened?””

“I keep trying.””

“I know.””

“But it feels like everyone sees who I used to be.””

David understood.

Because that fear was real.

Actions had consequences.

But consequences did not mean someone was trapped forever.

“Mia.””

She looked at him.

“Do you think changing means everyone immediately forgets?””

“No.””

“Then what do I do?””

“You keep showing who you are now.””

She sighed.

“What if it’s not enough?””

David smiled.

“Then you keep going.””

Simple.

But powerful.

Meanwhile, Aaliyah heard about what was happening.

She called Mia.

“You should apply for this program.””

Mia looked at the information.

“It’s competitive.””

“So?””

“I might not get in.””

Aaliyah smiled.

“That sounds familiar.””

Mia laughed.

“Are you making fun of me?””

“A little.””

For the first time in days, Mia smiled.

Then Aaliyah became serious.

“You know what your problem is?””

“What?””

“You’re judging yourself based on your worst moment.””

Mia became quiet.

Aaliyah continued.

“But you never judged me that way.””

“What do you mean?””

“When I lost my dress, you thought I could still have a good day.””

Mia looked down.

“I didn’t.””

“You learned to.””

The words stayed with her.

Because Aaliyah was right.

Mia had spent so much time asking others to forgive her.

She forgot she also needed to forgive herself.

A few weeks later, Mia got accepted into the program.

The entire family celebrated.

But the biggest surprise came when she told them why she believed she got accepted.

“They asked about a challenge I overcame.””

David smiled.

“And what did you say?””

“I told them the truth.””

Everyone became quiet.

“I told them I made a serious mistake. I hurt someone I loved. But I learned from it.””

Aaliyah smiled.

“That took courage.””

Mia nodded.

“I used to think admitting I was wrong made me weak.””

“And now?””

“Now I think pretending I’m perfect was the weakest thing I ever did.””

That evening, they celebrated together.

No drama.

No hidden anger.

Just family.

But before the night ended, Mia gave Aaliyah something.

A letter.

Aaliyah looked confused.

“What is this?””

“Read it later.””

After everyone went to sleep, Aaliyah opened it.

Inside were words Mia had struggled to say out loud.

She wrote about regret.

About jealousy.

About how she wished she had supported Aaliyah instead of competing with her.

But she also wrote about gratitude.

Because without Aaliyah’s forgiveness, she might never have changed.

Aaliyah finished reading with tears in her eyes.

Not because the letter erased the past.

It didn’t.

Because it proved how much someone could grow.

The next morning, Aaliyah found Mia.

“I read your letter.””

Mia immediately looked nervous.

“And?””

Aaliyah smiled.

“It was honest.””

Mia laughed.

“That sounds like you’re grading homework.””

“Maybe I am.””

They both laughed.

Then Aaliyah hugged her.

A year earlier, nobody would have believed this was possible.

Two sisters who once hurt each other were now supporting each other.

Not because the past disappeared.

May you like

Because they faced it.

And that made their bond stronger.
