Chapter 11: The Person Who Tried To Destroy Their Family

As summer approached, Aaliyah prepared for the biggest transition of her life.

College.

New city.

New experiences.

New independence.

Everyone in the family was excited.

Even Mia.

She helped Aaliyah pack.

She organized books.

She even made a checklist because Aaliyah admitted she was terrible at remembering small details.

“You’re becoming my assistant now?”” Aaliyah teased.

Mia smiled.

“Don’t get used to it.””

But both of them laughed.

Their relationship still had scars.

But now there were moments of genuine happiness.

One evening, David watched them from the doorway.

Vanessa stood beside him.

“They’re different.””

David nodded.

“They are.””

“Do you think they’ll be okay?””

David smiled.

“I think they’re finally learning how to be sisters.””

But that happiness didn’t last forever.

A few days before Aaliyah left, something happened that threatened everything.

Aaliyah received an anonymous message.

At first, she ignored it.

Then another came.

And another.

The messages contained old information.

Things about Mia.

Things about the dress.

Things about the deleted messages.

But there was something strange.

The messages weren’t warning her.

They were trying to make her angry.

Mia is pretending.

She hasn’t changed.

She just wants forgiveness.

Don’t trust her.

Aaliyah stared at the screen.

Her first reaction was anger.

Not because she believed the messages.

Because someone was trying to reopen wounds that had finally started healing.

She showed David.

His expression immediately became serious.

“This isn’t random.””

“What do you mean?””

“Someone wants a reaction.””

Mia saw the messages later that day.

The color drained from her face.

“I know who it is.””

Everyone looked at her.

“Brianna.””

David frowned.

“Are you sure?””

Mia nodded.

“She’s angry because I stopped agreeing with her.””

That evening, Mia called Brianna.

Aaliyah didn’t listen.

Neither did David.

But Mia later told them what happened.

Brianna denied everything at first.

Then she admitted it.

“You changed because of them,” Brianna said.

“No,” Mia replied.

“I changed because I finally realized who I was becoming.””

Brianna became quiet.

“You used to understand me.””

“I did.””

“Then why are you leaving me?””

Mia sighed.

“I’m not leaving you. I’m leaving the person I was when I was with you.””

Those words ended the friendship.

And although Mia was sad, she knew it was necessary.

Sometimes growth meant losing people.

Especially people who only supported the worst parts of you.

After everything was revealed, Brianna’s parents were contacted.

Not to punish her.

But because the situation had become serious.

The harassment stopped.

But the damage had already been done.

That night, Mia sat outside alone.

Aaliyah joined her.

“You okay?””

Mia shrugged.

“I lost a friend.””

Aaliyah nodded.

“That hurts.””

“Yeah.””

They sat quietly.

Then Mia said:

“I used to think losing people meant I was failing.””

Aaliyah looked at her.

“And now?””

“Now I think sometimes losing people means you’re finally choosing yourself.””

Aaliyah smiled.

“That’s actually wise.””

Mia laughed.

“Don’t sound so surprised.””

“I’m allowed to be.””

For the first time, their laughter felt natural.

Not forced.

Not careful.

Real.

The next morning, David surprised everyone.

He announced he had something planned before Aaliyah left.

“A family trip?””

Aaliyah looked confused.

David smiled.

“Not exactly.””

He handed her an envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

Her original graduation dress.

Restored.

Aaliyah stared.

“What?””

David smiled.

“I found someone who could repair it.””

She touched the picture carefully.

“But why?””

“Because I wanted you to know something.””

She looked at him.

“Something can be damaged and still become beautiful again.””

Aaliyah felt tears in her eyes.

May you like

The dress had once represented pain.

Now it represented healing.
