Chapter 3: The Moment Everyone Found Out
By the time I returned to the main hall, the atmosphere had completely changed.
People were whispering.
Staff members were moving quickly.
Something had happened.
And somehow, I already knew my family was involved.
I found out when I saw Emma.
She was standing near the entrance.
Alone.
Her confident smile was gone.
My father was beside her, looking more embarrassed than angry now.
When he saw me, his face changed.
Not relief.
Not happiness.
Shock.
“How are you here?””
I walked toward him.
“The same way everyone else is.””
His jaw tightened.
“That’s impossible.””
“No,” I said calmly.
“What was impossible was you thinking I needed your permission.””
Emma looked at me.
“What’s going on?””
My father ignored her.
“You need to leave before this gets worse.””
I stared at him.
“Worse for who?””
He didn’t answer.
Because he knew.
Then a staff member approached.
“Ms. Parker, Mr. Reed is ready for the private session.””
My father froze.
Emma froze.
Everyone nearby heard.
Private session.
With Alexander Reed.
My father looked at me like he was seeing me for the first time.
“What private session?””
I smiled.
“The one I was invited to.””
Emma’s face went pale.
“But I thought…”
She stopped.
Because she realized.
The VIP ticket was never the whole story.
She had taken the seat.
But she didn’t have the invitation.
My father looked at Emma.
Then at me.
And for once, he had no excuse.
No speech.
No explanation.
Only silence.
I followed the staff member away.
But before I left, I turned around.
“Dad.””
He looked up.
“Yes?””
I paused.
“I hope she enjoys the ticket.””
His expression changed.
Because he finally understood.
The thing he gave away was never mine to begin with.
My worth was.
And he had almost convinced me to forget that.
Inside the private room, Alexander Reed stood by the window.
“You handled that well,” he said.
I smiled.
“I didn’t.””
He looked surprised.
“I was hurt.””
He nodded.
“That’s honest.””
I looked outside at the city lights.
“My whole life, I thought I needed people to choose me.””
“And now?””
I looked at him.
“Now I know I can choose myself.””
He smiled.
“That’s usually when people become unstoppable.””
I didn’t know what would happen after that night.
I didn’t know if my father would apologize.
I didn’t know if my relationship with Emma could ever be repaired.
I didn’t know if my family would ever see me differently.
But I knew one thing.
For years, they had been deciding my place.
They had been telling me where I belonged.
They had been handing my opportunities to someone else.
But they made one mistake.
They forgot that I had been building something without them.
May you like
And soon…
Everyone would know my name.
